Sovereign Capital, the UK private equity Buy & Build specialist, is pleased to announce that portfolio company BIMM Institute, the largest and leading provider of contemporary music education in the UK and Ireland, is to open a new college in Berlin, its first in mainland Europe. The Berlin campus, which will have its first intake of students in September, will be BIMM’s sixth, and the fourth new location opened since Sovereign’s investment began in 2010.
At BIMM Berlin, students will be able to choose from Creative Musicianship degrees in Drums, Bass, Vocals and Guitar, as well as degrees in Music Business and Songwriting, all validated by the University of West London and taught in English. In addition, students at BIMM Berlin will have the option of studying at BIMM London in their second year.
BIMM Institute has grown nearly fourfold with Sovereign’s backing, from 1,150 students to more than 4,500 students, an increase of 32% in the last year alone. Today BIMM is recognised as the largest and leading provider of modern music further and higher education, with an impressive list of former students, including George Ezra, Tom Odell and 2015 BRITs Critics’ Choice award winner James Bay.
Dyson Bogg, Investment Director, Sovereign Capital Partners, said: "BIMM’s distinctive offering – of modern music taught by practicing musicians – continues to deliver strong results for its students, with the majority of graduates making their living through music alone. We are delighted to be supporting BIMM’s continued expansion with this new college in Berlin."
Adam Carswell, Chief Executive, BIMM Institute, said: "Berlin is the perfect location for us to offer a unique experience to the next generation of aspiring music industry professionals."
