Strategy

To build a market leading high-quality veterinary group through organic growth and strategic acquisition.

Result

Our origination and investment team worked with management to identify and acquire 21 veterinary businesses, expanding Linnaeus’ service offering and geographic reach. At the end of Sovereign's investment in June 2018, the Group had 5 referral hospitals, over 82 first-opinion practices, more than 1400 staff and was recognised as one of the largest and most highly regarded small animal specialist veterinary operators in the UK.

UTILITY BIDDER

Strategy

To rapidly accelerate the organic growth opportunities for the business

Result

As part of the organic growth strategy, we partnered with the Utility Bidder management team to undertake digital and sales reviews to support the further development of Utility Bidder’s processes and capabilities, and enhance their ability to win new business. In the 6 months following our investment, sales grew by c.25%.

PICS

Strategy

To support the management team led by Jo August, CEO, to successfully integrate and professionalise four high-quality independent fostering agencies to create a leading UK Group.

Result

Key functions in 33 national offices were centralised including: business development, training, finance, placement matching and referral, human resources and procurement. This resulted in PICS’ sector-leading Learning & Development programme offering 40 courses per month to c.900 foster families across all agencies. Improvements in marketing and application response reduced the cost of carer recruitment by 51% in 2 years.

CORDIUM

Strategy

Recognising that the compliance & regulatory consulting market was fragmented and increasingly regulated, Sovereign partnered management to scale a UK business into an international operator offering a global service.

Result

During the four years of Sovereign’s investment Cordium made eight acquisitions identified by Sovereign’s in-house origination team; opened its first office in Asia; broadened its service offering, and developed innovative web-based solutions. Cordium transformed from being a London based business to become one of the world’s largest independent compliance and regulatory consultancies.

NURSE PLUS

Strategy

To support the business’ request for a solution to founder succession and further professionalise through newly established roles.

Result

Utilising Sovereign’s extensive network, a new CEO, CFO and Chairman were identified and successfully appointed. As operational improvements were made to the business, further senior managers joined to establish key functions including: Head of Recruitment, creating the centralised recruitment support function; Head of Nursing, to drive that service line, and an additional Regional Operations Director to support the roll-out of Nurse Plus’s branch network into the North of England.
