Sovereign expands investment team to deploy Fund IV

Sovereign Capital, the UK private equity Buy & Build specialist, is pleased to announce three appointments: Jake Warman as Investment Manager; Jonathan Thorne as Investment Manager; and Paul Mangan as Researcher.

Jake Warman joins Sovereign from Skillcapital’s New York office, where he was a Director focusing on the Financial Services and Tech, Media & Telecoms sectors. A British national, Jake is a solicitor by training and prior to Skillcapital worked in the International Corporate Group at Watson Farley & Williams LLP in London and Paris. He holds an MA in Philosophy and Political Science from Trinity College Dublin and CPE (with commendation) and LPC qualifications from BPP Law School in London.

Prior to joining Sovereign, Jonathan Thorne was Corporate Development Director at Experian plc, where he worked on the origination and execution of M&A, disposal and joint venture activity in the UK, Ireland and EMEA. Previously Jonathan spent the majority of his career in Transaction Services with KPMG where he focused on the infrastructure, healthcare and real estate sectors. Jonathan graduated from the University of Southampton with a first class BSc in Accounting and Finance.

Paul Mangan was previously Senior Research Associate – Global Equities at Cognolink Limited, the primary research firm. At Cognolink, Paul worked on research projects with leading global hedge funds, strategy consultancies and private equity houses during their due diligence process. Prior to joining Cognolink, Paul obtained a MSc in International Relations and a BSc in Political Science from the University of Bristol.

Jake, Jonathan and Paul will work across Sovereign’s three investment sectors, business support services, healthcare and education and training. Most recently Sovereign completed simultaneous investments in accountancy services firms SJD Accountancy and Nixon Williams in a transaction worth £100m, and specialist veterinary group Willows Veterinary Centre and Referral Service.

We’re delighted to welcome Jake, Jonathan and Paul to our team as we look to deploy our most recent fund SCLP IV using our successful investment strategy, which has remained unchanged over the past 13 years. All three individuals bring with them specialist skills that complement the considerable expertise of our investment team.
