Equilibrium completes first acquisition since Sovereign investment
04.08.26

Equilibrium, the leading independent financial advisory and fund management business, has acquired Gresham Wealth Management, marking its first bolt-on since Sovereign Capital Partners invested in the business in September 2025.
Based in Hale, Cheshire, Gresham Wealth Management is a Chartered independent financial planning firm with approximately £285m in assets under management across 379 clients. Founded in 2010 by Morven Millar and Jonathan Young, the business has built a strong reputation for delivering high-quality financial advice, supported by long-standing client relationships and a very high client retention rate.
Alongside its core wealth management offering, Gresham has developed a specialist proposition serving personal injury and Court of Protection clients through established relationships with legal intermediaries, creating a differentiated position within the UK financial advice market.
The acquisition will also strengthen Equilibrium's presence in the North West, with Gresham's Hale office complementing Equilibrium's headquarters in Wilmslow.
James Dargan, Partner, Sovereign Capital Partners, said: “Gresham is a well-regarded business with a loyal client base, attractive specialist capabilities, and a great cultural fit for Equilibrium. The wealth management market is highly fragmented, and Equilibrium will continue to scale its offering through acquiring the highest quality businesses.”
Colin Lawson, CEO, Equilibrium, said: “Gresham is exactly the profile of business we were looking to partner with in this next chapter of growth at Equilibrium. We’re not just looking to scale for numbers; we’re looking for businesses and people who can strengthen Equilibrium’s client offering and support our long-term ambitions. Gresham is a well-respected, high-quality advice business and its expertise across multiple service lines will add meaningful value in the years ahead. This is an important step for us as a firm, and it won't be the last. We're already in conversations with several firms who share our values, and we expect to have more to say later this year.”
