When I joined the investment team in 2012, I was initially attracted by the firm’s focus on adding value to the portfolio businesses. At Sovereign it’s always been much more than providing funding; it’s about supporting management’s ambitions for the business whether that’s international expansion, finding new talent to strengthen the team or developing the organic growth opportunities – it’s all part of what we do here.
At Sovereign I focus on the business support services sector. Before joining Sovereign, I worked in the strategic and acquisition finance team at Societe Generale gaining deal experience in support services, then spent three years at Dar Capital, a Kuwaiti-backed private equity house, where I worked within the transaction team, focusing on service-based businesses in the UK and special situations.
It was the combination of the complexity of the deal, the level of research we undertook into the sector as well as the strong relationships we built that makes it particularly memorable for me.
At Sovereign I’ve been involved in a number of transactions including: the bolt-on acquisitions of Clifford House Fostering and ISP for Partnerships in Children’s Services where I am on the board; and Hedgestart, Sigma and Zodiac for Cordium. One I’m particularly proud of is the simultaneous investments in SJD Accountancy and Nixon Williams which we subsequently merged with Optionis. It was the combination of the complexity of the deal, the level of research we undertook into the sector as well as the strong relationships we built that makes it particularly memorable for me.
I qualified as an accountant with KPMG having completed an MA in Economics from the University of St Andrews.
I'm married with two young sons who are re-educating me on all things Batman related. In my spare time I am a frustrated Newcastle fan and rusty tennis player.
