Sovereign Capital completes two further healthcare acquisitions

Sovereign Capital, the UK private equity Buy & Build specialist, today announces two healthcare acquisitions: the bolt-on of Inclusion Care by supported living provider, Select Living Options and the acquisition of Community and Homecare Services by Sovereign’s domiciliary care investment, City & County Healthcare Group.

Inclusion Care (“Inclusion”) provides supported living and domiciliary care, primarily for adults with learning disabilities and mental health needs. Based in Worcestershire, the business operates supported living properties and one residential home, where individuals are encouraged to live as independently as possible. These are high-quality, small properties, which mostly have between two and five rooms and all are located in safe community settings suitable for the service users. To ensure the highest levels of care are provided, all staff are vetted by the CRB and Protection of Vulnerable Adults scheme (POVA), they exceed the minimum experience criteria and receive regular supervision. In recognition of the business’s commitment to staff training and development, Inclusion achieved the Investors in People Gold status in March 2010.

This is a transformational acquisition for Select Living Options as it extends the Group’s geographic coverage further, expands its service delivery into domiciliary care and increases the number of individuals cared for by over 60%.

Similar to City & County, Community and Homecare Services (“CHS”) is a domiciliary care business that provides care in the home, predominantly for elderly people. The business operates two branches, in Middlesbrough and Hartlepool, which are rated ‘Good’ and ‘Excellent’ by the Care Quality Commission. CHS’ coverage in the North East consolidates City & County’s presence in this area following its bolt-on acquisition of Newcastle-based Careline Homecare in April 2011.

Since Sovereign’s investment in City & County in September 2009, the Group has increased the number of care hours it provides by 166% to nearly 80,000 per week.

Commenting on the transactions, Dominic Dalli, Partner at Sovereign Capital, said: “These two acquisitions are strategically important for City & County and Select Living Options as they significantly extend both businesses’ geographic coverage, allowing their management teams to pursue further organic growth as demand for their high-quality services increases. In the past six months Sovereign has completed eight transactions in the healthcare services sector as we continue to use our proven Buy & Build model to enhance the service provision of our healthcare portfolio.”
