This research and origination of opportunities has been my focus for 20 years at Sovereign, across our range of sectors. Examples include Education (Lifetime Training, World Class Learning and BIMM), Healthcare (SENAD, City & County and Outcomes First Group) and Business Services (Premier Park, CMGL and TechPartners). For all these investments we have taken the time to get to know the sector, the business, the shareholders and members of the management team ahead of any transaction – in some cases for over 10 years.
A key element of success at Sovereign is a relentless focus on understanding our target sectors, developing close relationships with owners and managers, often over many years.
For vendors, our flexible approach to deal structuring and a preparedness to assist with succession planning in a confidential manner has helped move these transactions to completion. At the same time, for management teams, our commitment of capital and resources to help grow these investments (in many cases through Buy & Build) has built further value in the years thereafter. It has been incredibly fulfilling and rewarding to be part of the success of all these transactions, both in the patient years leading up to the initial deal through to supporting these companies in their subsequent growth.
Before joining Sovereign in the 1990's I was a strategy consultant at Bain & Company, after having obtained an MA in Physics from Oxford and an MBA from Harvard.
I'm married with three children, enjoying travel with the family when I can.
